In soulful marriage with his guitar, Tomas Rodriguez interprets Spanish, Latin, Brazilian and classical melodies with depth of feeling and lightness of touch. The artistry and elegance of his presence is sure to transform any gathering or setting into a rich and memorable event. From the classic refinement of Bach, the tropical lushness of Jobim, the passionate rapture of flamenco to the pulsating swing of samba, Tomas’ guitar weaves musical textures that provide a colorful and enticing backdrop to any event. Tomas offers eclectic duos, Trios and Ensembles — whether it be an elegant blend of the classical guitar and flute or the earthy groove of the guitar with African or Latin percussion – and a richly varied repertoire ranging from Baroque, classical, bossa nova, tango and jazz. combinations are ideal for ceremonies, openings, receptions, dinners and other occasions. Tomas also works with some of the top musicians in the New York area and with advance notice can organize up to a 10-piece band (including vocals) that can play anything from salsa to klezmer.
Tomas was contacted by a prominent New York City law firm to design music for a reception event at one of the City’s most upscale and hip hotel locations. Many new young lawyers from of Caribbean and Latin American descent would be present in the event and the music needed to honor the diverse backgrounds of the guests. Tomas brought in a a premier steel pan player from an illustrious Trinidadian musical family as well as two of the city’s most prominent Cuban musicians and created a unique ensemble that played everything from flamenco to calypso. The manager of the hotel dropped in on the event and then asked the ensemble to play a regular engagement poolside at the hotel.
A Non-Profit Gala:
An illustrious New York City based international non-profit called Tomas to coordinate the music for their annual gala event, which each year had over 1,000 attendees, and raised over a million dollars. The gala organizers wanted music that was hip enough to appeal to a younger crowd, eclectic enough to appeal to affluent patrons of the arts who were on the board and accessible to the majority of the guests, many of whom were affiliated with the maritime industry and whose tastes were conservative. Tomas put together a unique group of musicians, which included top musicians from New York’s Latin music scene as well as a leading saxophonist who toured with many famous jazz and R&B acts. This band played a mixture of specially chosen Cuban Son, Bossa Nova, R&B and standards, all with authenticity and flair. The extended cocktail hour in which the band played set the tone for the rest of the evening – festive, joyous, upbeat, with many guests calling the music the highlight of the event.
5- Star Hotel Restaurant:
Tomas was contacted by the restaurant manager of a 5-Star hotel in a New York City suburban area, who knew him from his work at the St. Regis Hotel. The hotel in question was a top destination in its area for corporate and political meetings and hosted many high profile events. The hotel was launching a new restaurant and lounge with much fanfare and wanted to feature live music that was engaging but not overbearing, accessible but not cliched. Tomas was engaged to play solo guitar in a variety of styles to appeal to both local and occasionally international clientele. Drawing on a repertoire that included everything from the Beatles and Cole Porter, to the classic Spanish repertoire of Andres Segovia, Tomas put together a compelling musical backdrop that supported both intimate and festive dining in the space. The restraint, artistry and sophistication of the solo guitar in the restaurant began to draw a clientele who came specifically to enjoy dining with the accompaniment of Tomas’ guitar.
Upscale Latin Restaurant:
A Zagat-rated Mexican and Latin restaurant with three locations throughout the tri-state area contacted Tomas to provide musical ambience for their primary Long Island locations. The owner wanted music that would be authentic and reflect the culture of the cuisine while also being appealing to the upscale clientele. Tomas put together music that drew on traditional and romantic Latin music from the 1950’s as well as Flamenco flavored versions of classic Latin songs.

My wife and I hired Tomas Rodriguez to provide all kinds of music for different parts of our wedding and he did an excellent job. Tomas played the guitar beautifully during our wedding ceremony, including traditional Jewish songs we had requested for the occasion. During the cocktail hour he played Latin and Brazilian music with a flautist and finally during the wedding reception itself, the eight-piece band that Tomas led expertly played Jewish dances, standards and R&B. He was completely responsive to our many questions, requests and adjustments; his rates were very competitive and he was always professional in manner, knowledgeable about all kinds of music and a pleasure to work with. I recommend him without reservation. — Private wedding client, New York, NY.
